Barcelona, Spain
We were lucky to have planned our trip to Barcelona during one of the city’s biggest holidays, the Feast of Sant Joan. It is one of the longest days of the year and one of the most important feast days for Catalans. There were fireworks on the beach and fires in the streets. It's traditional for students to burn their books celebrating the last day of school. The firecrackers were so loud it sounded like bombs going off. This took place all night long!
We explored so much of Barcelona and spent lots of time enjoying their beautiful beaches. We toured:
- Sagrada Familia, the people's church, architectural design started by Gaudi. We walked all the way to the top of the tower, lots and lots of steps, but absolutely breathtaking, personally more beautiful than the Vatican.
- Took an hour and half van ride to Tarragona along the coast line and along the way saw the ancient Roman ruins and the Roman aqueduct, El Pont del Diable. Then lunch and beach in Sitges.
- Took a high speed train to Figueres-Vilafant to tour the Dali Museum. Awesome artwork, but what a strange mind and man.
Barcelona was absolutely beautiful and exceeded all of our expectations.
