Benidorm, Spain

Oh Benidorm… my legs need a rest from your steep hills, countless steps and wandering paths. We stayed close to the Spanish side, with quiet beautiful beaches and local cuisine. This, compared to the British side, where a spot to sit on the beach was valued as prime real estate and defended with American brute force. I didn’t feel like there was much to see here during the day....but at night the British side came alive with a lot of interesting people (lots of stag and hen groups). We found two great bars, The Black Bull, which served great Long Islands and Spanish tequila. The bartenders and patrons were friendly, fun and provided plenty of laughs, it was a great atmosphere. Had to laugh a little when our waitress brought us the “good stuff,” Jose Cuervo as a kind gesture.

We stumbled down the street to the “The Western Saloon '' which had awesome live music, country with a British/Spanish twang. US and Texas flags adored the pseudo barn and it didn’t close until 4:00 am (don’t ask me how I know). If you were in your 20’s I could see this  being a definite destination or if your husband was raised in Texas and becomes a professional dancer after a few happy hour drinks, it’s also a definite destination.

Our place sat on a hill with a large terrace overlooking the city that offered peace and quiet from the nightlife. There was also a bus stop right outside our place. However, this so-called bus stop had no number or information and the bus seemed to come whenever (have yet to see a bus).

Pro...no big deal because it’s only a 25 minute straight path down to the Spanish beach. Venturing down doesn’t seem that bad, about three miles round trip.  Although venturing across town to the British  beach was five + miles round trip with lots of steps. Add to this the fact that the last 20 minutes of our walk home is a 45 degree incline. Our ventures out had me feeling the burn in areas of my body that I didn’t know existed.  So sometimes we kicked back by the pool for the day, enjoyed our snacks and prepared our bodies for the night's adventures….. opting for an Uber instead. Thank you Uber!
